Hi! My name is Tetiana, and I am the author and creator of the Serbia travel guide, followMe2Serbia. Let’s get to know each other.

A quick note: I am originally from Ukraine and have been living in Serbia for several years. English is not my native language, so I apologize in advance for any grammar slips. I hope the quality of my travel tips outweighs my linguistic imperfections!

About the Author

The FollowMe2Serbia project was founded in 2021. Here is the team behind it:

  • Tetiana Shemiakina – the voice telling you about Serbia in the articles on followme2serbia.com. I’ve lived in Serbia for several years (moving here long before the mass relocation wave). I truly love the Serbian people and share my experiences in my Telegram channel, “Tetiana in the Balkans.”

  • I am also the creator of the life-thai.com travel blog, which features my guides to Montenegro 🇲🇪, Thailand 🇭🇷, Malaysia 🇲🇾, and more. I’ve traveled to over 30 countries and have been building online guides for over 10 years.
  • A special thanks to Marija Kovačević, a Belgrade local who provided invaluable help when I first started this guide. She still consults me on the nuances of Serbian cuisine and traditions.
  • Thanks to Tatyana Romanova (@tatyana.photographe) for the unique logo. Without her, this would just be another site with a flag in the logo.

The Story of This Guide

My first visit to Serbia was in 2015. I arrived in Belgrade in late December. It was freezing and snowing. A lady at the bus station wouldn’t let me use the restroom because I only had Euros. I didn’t like Serbia at all back then.

To be honest, it wasn’t love at first sight. I lived in neighboring Montenegro for years, charmed by its beauty, before giving Serbia a second chance in 2021. That’s when I realized two things:

  1. Serbia is incredibly hospitable, soulful, and beautiful.
  2. There was no user-friendly website that spoke to me as an independent traveler.

That’s how the idea for followMe2Serbia was born.

Why Trust This Guide?

I’ve spent years exploring Serbia, visiting unique festivals, seeing the main attractions, and immersing myself in the culture. I’ve experienced firsthand the local differences between Vojvodina and Southern Serbia.

I avoid superficial descriptions. I’m not a travel agency; if I didn’t like something, I’ll say so. If I recommend a service or a restaurant, it’s because I’ve used it and liked it personally.

There are no AI-generated texts or outsourced articles here – only real experiences from someone who actually lives here.

Accuracy and Reliability

I learned the Serbian language to get information firsthand from local guides and people.

While my background isn’t in journalism, I’ve completed professional writing courses at the Band school to ensure high editorial standards:

  • Writing Non-Fiction
  • Write Like a Pro: Techniques for Professional Editors

When preparing new content, I:

  • Consult with regional Tourism Organizations of Serbia.
  • Use official statistical and historical data.
  • Personally verify prices and working hours.
  • Use my own photography (with rare exceptions from official sources).
  • Curate hotel recommendations based on real Booking.com verified stays and personal research.
