How to Get from Niš Airport to the City Center—Bus, Taxi, and Shuttle
Niš Airport is located close to the city. It’s just 4 km from the historic center (King Milan Square). You can reach your hotel in just 10–20 minutes. Here are all the ways to get from Alexander the Great Airport to Niš:
City bus to downtown Niš (Line 34)
A regular suburban loop route—Line 34—runs to and from “Constantine the Great” Airport (Aerodrom Konstantin Veliki Niš). It operates in both directions:
- Bus 34A follows this route: Airport – Main Bus Station (Glavna autobuska stanica) – Main Train Station (Železnička stanica) – City Center.
- Bus 34B follows the same loop but in the opposite direction (convenient if your hotel is in the upper part of the city).
The bus route is ideal both for those just passing through the city (it goes to the train station and the bus station) and for those staying in Niš for a few days.
Buses run approximately every 15 minutes on weekdays and up to every 30 minutes on weekends. Service operates from about 5:45 a.m. to 9:15 p.m.
The city bus stops at the entrance to Niš Airport (departures) for departing passengers. The bus stop for the city is located about 50 meters from the passenger terminal. It’s easy to find, even for first-time visitors to Niš.
Taxis from the airport to downtown Niš
A taxi is the most convenient and easiest way to get to your hotel or apartment from Nis Airport.
By European standards, taxis in Niš are very inexpensive, especially when compared to rates in Belgrade. The official taxi stand is located 50 meters from the passenger terminal, next to the bus stop.
The starting fare for local taxi companies is 150 RSD (1.28 euro). Depending on your destination, the trip can cost anywhere from 350 dinars (2.98 euro) to 1,200 RSD (10.22 euro) to Niška Banja.
For example, a metered ride to the city center (King Milan Square or the pedestrian zone) takes about 10 minutes and costs only 400–600 RSD (3.41–5.11 euros), depending on the time of day and the amount of luggage.
I recommend taking an official taxi or a pre-booked transfer. It’s best to avoid taxi drivers without roof signs (“checkered patterns”).
Transfer by car or minivan from Niš Airport
If you’re arriving on a night flight, traveling with large suitcases, or simply don’t want to wait, the best option is to book a private transfer in advance. The distance between Niš Airport and Belgrade is about 240 km. The route runs along the A1 (E-75) highway, which is a high-speed, fully renovated expressway.

Pros and cons
- Nis–Belgrade bus. The most popular and reliable option. Buses operated by Niš-Ekspres and other companies depart from the Nis Main Bus Station (which you can reach via free bus No. 34) to Belgrade nearly every hour. They arrive at the Belgrade Main Bus Station (BAS). Pros: cheap, runs on schedule. Cons: you first need to get to the Niš bus station.
- Kombi prevoz (private minivans). Local carriers (such as TIM prevoz) organize daily group transfers in comfortable minivans. They can often pick you up directly from Niš Airport and take you to your desired address in Belgrade or straight to Nikola Tesla Airport. Pros: door-to-door service, comfort. Cons: advance booking is required by phone or through messaging apps.
- Nis–Belgrade Train. Large-scale work is ongoing on the Belgrade–Nis line to modernize the tracks for high-speed rail. Regular trains take a long time and are frequently delayed. Tourist reviews from 2026 about traveling by train are terrible.
- Shuttle service. Maximum comfort. The vehicle is provided specifically to match your flight. Pros: speed, privacy, especially beneficial for large groups. Cons: the price is higher than that of a regular taxi.
How to Get from Niš Airport to Novi Sad
The distance to Novi Sad is about 320 km. The entire route follows a straight highway through Belgrade.

Pros and Cons
- Bus. There aren’t many direct routes from Niš to Novi Sad (operated by Niš-Ekspres), but you can always take a bus to Belgrade and then transfer to a connecting bus there. Pros: predictability, reliable schedule. Cons: it’s tiring to spend more than 4 hours in a bus seat.
- Train. If you want to save money and experience the Serbian railways, take the train from Niš Station to Belgrade Center (Prokop) Station, and from there transfer to the famous “Soko” (Soko), which will whisk you to Novi Sad in a record 36 minutes. Pros: The second leg of the journey on the “Soko” is pure delight and comfort. Cons: The total travel time remains long due to repairs on the southern line.
- Shared ride. Private minibuses transport passengers on demand from Niš to Novi Sad. Pros: They take you directly to your destination. Cons: Direct trips aren’t available every day; you’ll need to coordinate with the group.
How to Get from Niš Airport to Kopaonik
Kopaonik is not only Serbia’s main ski resort—and one of the best in the Balkans—but also a popular destination for active summer vacations. I’ve written a separate guide about it. The distance from Niš Airport to Kopaonik is about 130 km, but the route follows winding mountain roads, so the travel time is longer.

What to Choose—Pros and Cons
- Kombi prevoz (seasonal shuttle). This is hands down the best way to get to the ski slopes. During the winter season (typically from December 1 to March 15), companies operate daily shuttles. For example, TIM Transfer takes tourists “door-to-door” directly from Niš to their hotel or apartment in Kopaonik. Pros: ideal logistics for skiers with their own gear, best price. Cons: this option is available only during the ski season.
- Taxis and transfers. The car takes you along winding mountain roads. Pros: Available 24/7; no need to adjust to a schedule; drivers are experienced, and the vehicles are equipped for snowy roads. Cons: Expensive for one or two passengers. You can book a transfer on the Kiwitaxi website or the GetTransfer website.
- Bus. There are practically no direct, regular bus routes from Niš to Kopaonik. You’ll have to take a regular bus to Kruševac or Brus, and then transfer to a local bus to the resort. Pros: the most cost-effective option. Cons: having to make two transfers at provincial bus stations while carrying skis or a snowboard is hardly a pleasant experience.
