Novi Sad is located just 90 km from Serbia’s capital, making it a perfect destination for a short getaway. You can travel from Belgrade to Novi Sad by bus, commuter train, high-speed train (Soko), or car. The travel time and cost from one city to the other depend on the mode of transportation you choose.

Belgrade – Novi Sad Bus
Buses to Novi Sad depart from Belgrade’s main bus station, BAS Beograd, in New Belgrade (on the map).
Several bus carriers operate on the Belgrade–Novi Sad route:
- Becej Prevoz – the cheapest tickets, but the longest travel time. 1 hour 45 minutes.
- Lasta – offers the most frequent departures from Belgrade to Novi Sad. There are express services (1 hour 10 minutes) and regular services (1.5 hours).
- Niš Express (Nis Ekspres)—the fastest, but also the most expensive.
- Stup Vrsac.
The first bus departs at 4:30 a.m. Depending on the time of day, buses run every hour or more frequently. You can view the schedule on the BAS.rs or Polazak.rs websites, or using the form below.
Tickets can be purchased at the bus station or on the Polazak.rs website. You can also buy a ticket on the Omio or 12go.com. The latter usually offers more options for Serbia. Note: Online booking closes one day in advance.

Beograd–Novi Sad Express Train (Inter City Soko Electric Train)
Belgrade and Novi Sad are connected by a new high-speed railway line served by the modern Soko electric train (travel time is just 36 minutes). The Soko high-speed train takes just 30 minutes to reach Novi Sad. If you are planning a day trip from Belgrade to Novi Sad, the train is your best option.
Train departs from the Beograd Centar (location) and Novi Beograd stations. Tickets can be purchased at the station or online via the Srbija Voz app.
Due to the tragic collapse of part of the train station in Novi Sad in 2025, the station building remains closed to this day. Trains bound for Novi Sad stop in Petrovaradin (a suburb of Novi Sad). Therefore, if you’re buying a ticket online, select “Petrovaradin” as your destination station. From there, it’s easy to get into the city by taxi or bus. If you select “Novi Sad” as your destination, a ticket search on the official srbijavoz website or in the official app will return 0 results.
How to get from Petrovaradin Station to Novi Sad City Center?Since trains currently terminate at Petrovaradin, you might be wondering how to reach Novi Sad. Don’t worry, it is very close and easy to navigate!
- By City Bus. The cheapest way is to take local bus No. 3 or No. 9. The bus stop is located just a short walk from the train station on the main road (Preradovićeva Street). You can buy a ticket directly from the driver. Make sure to have small cash in Serbian dinars ready (a ticket costs 65 RSD). It takes about 10–15 minutes to reach the center.
- By Taxi. You will usually find local taxis waiting right outside the train station. A ride to the city center takes less than 10 minutes and should cost around 500–800 RSD (€4–€7).
- On Foot (My Bonus Tip!). Since you are already in Petrovaradin, why not start your sightseeing right away? The famous Petrovaradin Fortress (location) — the main tourist attraction of Novi Sad — is just a 15–20 minute walk from the station. You can explore the fortress, enjoy the panoramic view of the Danube river, and then simply cross the Varadin Bridge straight into the Old Town.
Important! If you buy a ticket from the conductor on the train, you’ll have to pay an additional 500 dinars (4.5 €) on top of the ticket price.
Srbija Voz has announced that the 500 RSD surcharge will not be charged to passengers boarding at stations that have neither a ticket office nor a ticket machine.
The Soko train offers two classes of seating for passengers and allows bicycles on board. There is an additional fee for transporting a bicycle. You can’t do this online yet—only at the ticket office. I’ve provided more details about the rules for transporting pets and bicycles in my article “Transportation in Serbia.” A one-way second-class train ticket with a reserved seat costs 603 dinars (€5.50).
Regular train to Novi Sad (Regio Express)
Regio Express trains to Novi Sad depart from Beograd centar, Novi Beograd, and Zemun stations.
You can check the schedule in the Srbija voz app or on the srbvoz.rs website. Tickets can be purchased at the station or through the Srbija voz app. A one-way adult fare is 453 dinars.
The trip takes about an hour, as the train makes many stops along the way. During peak season, this train can get crowded.
How to Get from Belgrade Airport Nikola Tesla to Novi Sad
By train:
There is still no direct train line between Serbia’s main airport and Novi Sad. Here is step by step guide how to get from Belgrade’s airport to Novi Sad by Train:
- Step 1. Get from Nikola Tesla Airport to Belgrade’s main train station, Prokop. You can take a taxi or bus No. 600. I’ve covered this in more detail in the article “All Ways to Get from Belgrade Airport to the City.”
- Step 2. From Belgrade’s main train station, take the Soko train or the Regio train to Novi Sad (temporarily via Petrovaradin).
- Step 3. Take a local bus or taxi from Petrovaradin to the center of Novi Sad (as I explained in the section above).
By bus:
- Step 1. Travel from the airport to Belgrade’s main bus station, BAS Beograd, in New Belgrade. The most convenient way is by taxi.
- Step 2. Buses depart regularly from the BAS Beograd bus station to Novi Sad.
Car transfer (taxi) from Belgrade Airport to Novi Sad:
The ride takes 1 hour to 1 hour and 20 minutes. Taxi fares start at €80 for a budget car and go up to €120 for a family-sized vehicle with a large trunk.
I recommend booking a taxi in advance on the Kiwitaxi website. This allows you to pay for your transfer online with your regular bank card before you arrive, meaning you won’t have to worry about exchanging money for Serbian dinars right at the airport.

From Belgrade to Novi Sad by car
There are two options here:
- Blablacar works pretty well in Serbia; Serbs are constantly driving from the capital to Novi Sad.
- Renting a car. I explained what you need to rent a car in Serbia in this article.
The distance from Belgrade to Novi Sad depends on which road you choose. There are several routes:
- A1/E75 — the fastest in terms of travel time (1 hour 23 minutes), but the longest in terms of distance (101 km). It’s a toll road with a speed limit of 130 km/h. Show route on map →

I usually take the toll road. It’s in good condition, with gas stations and rest areas along the way.
